FEEDBACK: A monkey feasts on some sugary fruit. As soon as the first bite of fruit hits its stomach, but before any glucose from the ingested food enters the monkey's blood, its blood glucose level drops slightly. As the monkey's meal is digested and glucose is absorbed in the blood, glucose levels are slightly elevated. They then decrease back to the starting value after absorption has been completed. Which type(s) of regulation are most likely to be involved in regulating blood glucose concentrations?
A lion kills a zebra and is going to feast on its iron-rich meat. As soon as the first bite of food hits the lion’s stomach, the lion’s blood iron concentration drops. It then increases for a while as digestion and nutrient absorption begin, and then decreases back to the value seen before the start of the meal.
Group of answer choices
Negative feedback and feedforward regulation
Positive feedback and feedforward regulation
All three types of regulation
Negative feedback and positive feedback
Negative feedback only
correct answer is Option A - Negative feedback and feedforward regulation
When the food enter stomach , but before absorption of glucose into the blood circulation there is a slight drop in the blood glucose level is an example for Feedforward Regulation.
In feedforward regulation , the body will regulate certain condition by means of preadaptation.
In this case, the body is aware that when we eat food ,it will undergo digestion and absorption that will increase the blood glucose level .So, Body is preadapted to compensate that change before it had occur. This type of regulation is called Feedback regulation
Other example for feedback regulation is Preadaptation during the time of exercise. If the body is aware about the changes occuring during the exercise , the body will adjust the posture before that condition occur inorder to control than condition.
As the monkey's meal is digested and glucose is absorbed in the blood, glucose levels are slightly elevated. They then decrease back to the starting value after absorption has been completed - This is typical example for Negative feedback mechanism.
The body control the homeostasis(regulation of the internal environment) is by means of negative feedback regulation.
Here the stimuli is increase in glucose after absorption . THis stimuli is negatively opposed by this type of mechanism.
As a part of negative feedback mechanism the body will produce insulin hormone from the isletcells of the pancreas to convert the excess glucose present in the blood stream to Glycogen , thereby the glucose level are controlled to normal.
Positive feedback regulation is enhancing the stimuli.
for example Birth of child , the stimuli is coming from the fetus , it further activate the releaee of Oxytocin hormone toenhance the uterine contraction and expulsion of fetus.
