Please explain your answer.
What general parts of the brain are mostly affected by stroke and why?
A stroke is a sudden block in the blood supply of the brain.
The middle cerebral Artery is most often blocked during a stroke. So the parts/regions of the brain supplied by this Artery will be affected the most.
So the parts of the brain which are affected the most in stroke are :-
?Most of the superolateral surface (2/3rd) which includes greater parts of Primary motor & sensory areas and frontal eyefield. In dominant hemisphere it includes the Broca's and Wernicke's speech areas.
?Temporal pole of the temporal lobe.
?Lateral part of orbital surface of frontal lobe.
Since these parts are affected so if there is stroke then it may produce following effects :-
• Contralateral hemiparesis and hemianesthesia due to involvement of primary motor and sensory areas.
• Aphasia due to involvement of motor and sensory speech areas of dominant hemisphere.
• Contralateral homonymous hemianopia due to involvement of optic radiation.
So these parts will be affected and it is due to involvement of Middle Cerebral Artery.
