What are enzymes? What is the active site of an enzyme? What does the term substrate mean?
What are enzymes-:
Enzymes are protein molecules in cells which work as biological catalysts. Enzymes speed up chemical reactions in the body, but do not get used up in the process, therefore can be used over and over again. Almost all biochemical reactions in living things need enzymes.
Active site of an enzymes-:
The enzyme’s active site is the site at which the enzyme binds to the substrates and increases their chances of reacting.that active site consists of the residues that form temporary bonds with the substrate and the residues catalyse a reaction of that substrate.
Substrate-:
A substrate is a molecule acted upon by an enzyme. A substrate is loaded into the active site of the enzyme, or the place that allows weak bonds to be formed between the two molecules. An example of a substrate is a surface where an enzyme acts.
