As the Director of Emergency Services for the community located on the South Carolina coast, you have been preparing for a hurricane for the past several days. When the hurricane finally comes ashore, it does so as a Category 4. Discuss how you will respond to this disaster. What resources would you call upon locally, at the state level, and at the federal level? Discuss at what point will you call for state and federal aid and under what legal authority would you be able to call for the federal aid to meet your response needs?
A category 4 hurricane is significantly harmful to the community due to the damage that it likely to cause. Even with proper preparation, certain resources are required at the local, state, and federal level. In regards to the local level resources that are required include hospitals, which will be used to take care of injured people, housing facilities such as schools and churches that will be used to house and shelter the affected people, communication resources and people who will help to evaluate people that are affected by the hurricane and probably trapped by floods. The local government is also responsible for providing transport before the state can be able to do so.
At the state level, resources that need to be provided are mostly the ones that need to help prevent further damage to property, injuries and deaths to people. This involves aircrafts for airlifting victims that are significantly injured and additional transportation vehicles. The federal government is likely to be involved if the problem prove to be beyond the hands of both the local and state level. Resources provided at the federal level may include financial resources to facilitate for more housing facilities, transportation, food and shelter
