Please explain in details with some theory, what are the advantages or disadvantages of using social media as part of a brand strategy.
As a means of brand strategy, social media provides both benefits as well as has some inherent disadvantages in its use. First of all, we have to keep in mind that even though social media is the best platform nowadays for the wider audience, reach and shareability factor that is presents us with as advantages, we have to keep in mind that there is a lack of control factor that is present on the social media. This is because social media inherent allows the freedom of mind as well as speech. Everybody has an opinion about everything and just as there are brand loyal customers to your business, there are some who dislike your brand and keeping your marketing and maintaining the brand image over social media becomes a challenge which such factors being present around. Not only should be prepared to bear ridicule and embarrassment in the front of all our patrons and customers but, it is easy to let one mistake slip out when we cannot control the information regarding our operations and this could potentially result in failure of the strategy altogether. Other than the above fact, social media brand marketing, as well as maintenance, is time-consuming and has the benefit of being able to cater to a wider audience, increase brand loyalty as well as has the advantage of word of mouth (digital shares) which cannot be achieved through traditional means.
