An aerial camera has a 9½-inch square film format and a 6-inch focal length lens. What must the flying height (in meter) be to obtain a scale of 1/2000? (Hint: 1 inch=2.54 cm)

Solutions

Expert Solution

ANSWER

STEP 1

                Given that focal length of the camera lens (f) = 6 inch = 6 *2.54 cm = 15.24 cm

                 Scale (S) = 1/2000 ( or it can also be written as 1 : 2000)

Let H be the flying height

Step 2

                            We know that

                                                                f/H = S

                                                             or,   15.24/H = 1/2000

                                                                Or, H = 15.24 *2000 =30480 cm

                                                                                                         = 304.80 m

Therefore the required flying height (in meter ) is 304.80 meter
