Think Critically 5-3: Using Advanced File and Storage Features (Part 2)
The second problem identified is reducing the amount of storage being used on a file server that is used to store user documents. Many of the documents stored by users are related to projects that several users collaborate on and on which many users keep their own copies of the files. This means there are a lot of copies of the same files. In addition, you use Shadow Copies for shared folders so users can easily revert files to previous editions. You also know that many users keep copies of training videos and other multimedia files. He asked if you can find a way to reduce the amount of storage being used on this file server without making users change the way they work and store files. There is no budget for more hardware to address this problem beyond was stated in 5-1. What solution would you propose for this? How would you implement it?
There are many virtual storages availabe for free, (for example Google drive - 15GB storage for free), and if you create multiple accounts then you can easily store your personal documents, files, photos, videos etc easily and you need not need to worry about the backup, as it is completely handled by Google team. Even if there is a chance of loosing data due to some glitches, google keeps replicas of data for worst case scenarios. This approach is best fit for an individual, but when it comes to an organization it won't work. Because this limited storage will be of no use for the startups or for organizations as they require huge amount of storage to store their data and all sorts of information. Simple way is to shift the data storage from server to the virtual storage so as to reduce the load from the server.
