Find the mean of the data in the given frequency distribution. Compare the computed mean to the actual mean of 55.6 degrees.

Low Temperature (F degrees) 40-44 45-49 50-54 55-59 60-64
FRequency 2        5       11      4        1

The mean of the frequency distribution is _____ degrees.

(round to the nearest tenth as needed.)

Solutions

Expert Solution

Solution:-

For temperature (40-44):-

Frequency = 2

For temperature (45-49):-

Frequency = 5

For temperature (50-54):-

Frequency = 11

For temperature (55-59):-

Frequency = 4

For temperature (60-64):-

Frequency = 1

N = 2+5+11+4+1 = 23

The mean of the frequency distribution is 51.3 degrees.

Difference = Actual mean - Computed mean

Actual mean = 55.6 degrees

Computed mean = 51.3 degrees.

Difference = 4.3 > 0.05

The computed mean is not close to the actual mean

why because the difference between the means is more than 5%
