Question 1 – Case Study (30%)
You are required to produce a written assignment of maximum 500
words for each section. Each section is 15 marks.
(a) The management of your company has requested you to propose two
CAD
system for the new design project that was recently awarded to the
company.
Your proposal should be a comparative study and include: -
i) CAD software name and developer
ii) Hardware and system requirements
iii) CAD/CAM features and capabilities
iv) Price
Based on the comparisons, given your recommendation on the suitable
CAD system.
(b) Locate an engineering company (you may have visited as part of
your work related learning) and produce your own case study of how
the investment in CAD CAM has affected the business. You should
produce an analysis of the investment and the impact on the output
of the business. Identify also how they also may be planning to
introduce additional machines as a result of the improvement in
production.
There are many CAD software are available in the market. But there is two good software.
i) CAD software name and developer:-
1. Autodesk Product Design Suite and this software is developed by John Walker, Dan Drake
This software has the very interesting key features like.
a) you can change your product design quickly and easily.
b)you can make Integrate electrical and mechanical design.
c) the main thing in this software you can reduce manufacturing costs by creating accurate design documentation and evaluating product manufacturability.
2.Hardware and system requirements :
You should have Os :
RAM: 4GB & DISK SPACE : 5GB
GRAPHIC CARD: Basic Graphics:
Display adapter capable of 24-bit color
Advanced Graphics:
DirectX® 11 capable graphics card with Shader Model.
Price: $2,310 annual desktop subscription with basic support
2. MATLAB (matrix laboratory) this is developed by Cleve Moler, MathWorks.
Now key features:
a) you can explore, visualize, and model your data.
b)fast execution of vector and matrix calculations.
c) The basic thing is you can numeric computation to use mathematical functions to solve science and engineering problems & share your work and report.
2.Hardware and system requirements :
For Window 10: Ram 2GB, Disk space 2GB, Processor: Any Intel or AMD x86-64 processor, Graphics: No specific graphics card is required.
Price: an individual license runs $50 for students and $150 for home users.
I think you should work on Matlab. But this is not mean that Autodesk is not good. the choice is yours.
B) in my point of view the investment in CAD CAM has affected the business very much .you can understand via these points: 1) cost reduction 2) productivity benefits 3) Ease of use and reliability and flexibility. 4) Batter and faster service.
