pharynx

  • Pharynx is a wide muscular tube,situated behind the nose,the mouth and larynx .
  • Clinically it is a part of the upper respiratory passage where infections are common.
  • The upper part of the pharynx transmits only air,the lower part (below the inlet of larynx),only food.
  • The middle part is a common passage for both air and food.

Larynx

  • Larynx is the organ for production of voice or phonation.It is also an air passage and acts as a sphincter at the inlet of lower respiratory passages.
  • Larynx is well developed in humans.its capabilities are greatly enhanced by large vocalisation area in the lower part of motor cortex.
  • Larynx is a part of respiratory system allowing two way flow of gases.
  • Larynx lies in the anterior midline of the neck,extending from root of the tongue to the trachea.

  • Throat is a ring like muscular tube that acts as a passage for air,food and liquid.
  • It is located behind the nose and mouth and connects the mouth and nose to the trachea and esophagus.
