  • The FSH(follicle stimulating hormones) and LH(leutinizing hormones are termed as gonadotropins and it is produced in testes in males and ovaries in females.
  • A number of primary and early antral follicles are always present in ovary between puberty and menopause.further developement of these follicles beyond these stages requires stimulation of FSH.
  1. ​​​​​​​Before puberty,the concentration of FSH in the plasma is too low to bring such developement.
  2. After puberty,during first half of each menstural cycle,increase in FSH secretion stimulates follicular growth .FSH stimulates proliferation of granulosa cells to produce estrogen,and stimulates enlargement of  the antrum.
  • ​​​​​​​LH acts on the theca and granulosa cells.These cells are converted to leuteal cells as follicle becomes corpus leuteum after ovulation.
  • LH causes lutemization of these cells .LH surge is responsible for ovulation to occur.
