I am having a hard time getting started on how to do this assignment.

I would like some ideas on how to start the MEMO. and maybe some ideas on what you would include. But I don't necessarily need the assignment completed for me. just need ideas!!!

One routine negative message in the form of an internal memo. 400-500 word message. Single-spaced, with 1-inch margins on all sides.

Objective:

To announce organizational restructuring, one routine negative message addressed to employees.

The audience for a negative message is instead anxious and unwelcoming. delivering an effective message will require you to adapt what you’ve learned regarding tone, emphasis, and direct/indirect approaches.

Assignment scenario:

As the head of a business, you’ve decided that organizational restructuring is necessary in order for your company to stay solvent and adapt to changing market trends. Investors will be happy to hear about the restructuring and its long-term positive impact, but employees are anxious about impending layoffs.

Using details provided below, prepare one negative message address to employees:

Reasons for Restructuring

Impact of Restructuring

  • Outdated business model
  • Employees experiencing low morale
  • Stakeholders/investors losing confidence
  • Financial losses are becoming significant
  • Company is less competitive in current market
  • Corporate debt is becoming difficult to manage
  • (Any additional reasons you’d like to include.)
  • Many employees will be laid off
  • New structure will require re-training employees
  • Corporate interest payments will be reduced
  • Many departments will become more efficient
  • Underutilized assets/teams will be sold
  • Company branding and marketing will be revitalized
  • (Any additional outcomes you’d like to include.)

Answer-

In order to start your assignment you should think that you just have to tell your employees about the fact that due to organization restructuring some (or most) of them will loose their jobs. Now as they must had some idea about the restructuring their perception is negative about what you are about to say which means that they will not find the logic and rationale of the message. Therefore, you need to use all the factors you have been taught ( what type of tone, direct or indirect approach, etc.). I am providing you an example but you should modify or change it as per the total factors you have been taught.

So what I am depicting is presenting you the message in the written form. The message is negative but it although should have the sympathy of the employees and we need to make them believe that nothing is against them the decision is taken for the sake of the organization.

Dear Employees,

It has been a good journey due to your efforts we have achieved all the heights. It is very unfortunate to share with you about the phase that the company is going through but this organization is like your family that's why you should have the full right to know about the situation. Our business model is outdated, stakeholders/investors are loosing confidence in us, we are having huge financial loses, debt is increasing, we are becoming less competitive and as a conclusion we just want to say that we are on the verge of end. That's why the company decided for organizational restructuring so that the company can survive. Now due to organization restructuring some of you will have to loose your jobs and some of you will be needed training. It is hard to inform you about this but organizational restructuring is now a necessity to perform if we don't then in some time our business will collapse and then all of us will be unemployed but by organizational restructuring many of us will survive and most importantly our organization will survive and all the effort of all the persons involved with the company will be wasted.

Thanks for all your efforts.

Hope you will understand.

Note - if it is vocal then have to be in mild (moderate) tone.
