Blood - Blood is a liquid tissue composed of different cellular elements suspended in plasma.
Location - Blood vessels, Heart
Functions - Transports oxygen and nutrients to the cells; transports carbon dioxide and waste products away from the cell.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Elastic cartilage - There are three different types of cartilage: elastic cartilage , hyaline cartilage and fibrous cartilage. Elastic cartilage is the yellow cartilage.
Location - Outer ear, Eustachian tube, epiglottis.
Functions - provides strength and elasticity, maintains the shape.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Fibrocartilage - There are three different types of cartilage: elastic cartilage , hyaline cartilage and fibrous cartilage. Fibrous cartilage is strong and very tough.
Location - intervertebral discs, insertions of ligaments and tendons, pubic symphysis
Functions - provide strength and elasticity, more resistant to repetitious stress.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Bone - Bone is a rigid tissue made up of collagen and mineral deposits that make up the vertebrate skeleton.
Location - Axial skeleton, appendicular skeleton.
Functions - structure and support for the body, protects internal organs, roduction of red and white blood cells by bone marrow, locomotion.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Skeletal Muscle - Striated voluntary muscles, composed of actin and myosin.
Location - Attached to bones, muscles of tongue
Functions - Helps in voluntary movements, locomotion,
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Cardiac Muscle - Striated involuntary muscle that constitutes the tssue of the walls of the heart.
Location - Atria and the ventricles of heart
Functions - Pumping of heart and circulating of blood.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Smooth Muscle - Non-striated involuntary muscle, composed of actin and myosin.
Location - Blood vessels, gastro intestinal tract, urinary bladder.
Functions - Movement of food through digestive tract, micturition.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Nervous tissue - Nervous tissue is composed of nerve cells called neurons and supporting cells called neuroglia.
Location - Brain and spinal cord, peripheral nerves
Functions - Carries impulses to and from the different parts of the body, controls bodily functions.
