Jake is a 17 year old teenager and according to Erikson stage he falls under the categoryof Identity vs Role confusion.At this stage all teenagers are looking for an identity of their own,want to be recognized in the society,have internal conflicts about who they are and if they are happy with what they are doing.When jake is living in an individualistic culture he is expected to follow certain norms of his culture which may interfere with his identity crisis.Many teenagers at this stage chose to go against the norms to develop their own identity.Erikson stage suggests that adolescents at this stage need to develop an identity but if they do not they face difficulty in relationships.At this stage stage they must have good peer influence,healthy relationships,identify role models and good social influence.

According to Jean Piaget Jake is in the fromal operation stage where there is abstract thinking.They develop moral reasoning ,the good and the bad,logical reasoning.Though they develop all these at this stage their search for identity at this stage may prevent them from logical reasoning.Conflicts about moral reasoning arises.They often doubt themselves if they are good or bad,happy or sad.it is very crucial at this stage that they have good societal and peer influence.
