Why in a metal parallel-plate waveguide does TM0 exist and TE0 does not? Or is it the other way around?
In metal parallel-plate waveguides,the the electric field of TEm is derived from Maxwell equation is:
E(x)= y^ E o sin(mπx/d) e -i beta z
In the figure attached you see that for TE0 case
(m=0),we have trivial answer of E=0,that is why TE starts with TE1 .This doesn't happen with TM0 model beacuse it behave like a cosine functions instead of sine i.e. it is not zero at m=0.
