  • Discuss the long-term repercussions of being a living organ donor.
  • Imagine that you are Josie’s mom or dad and one of your children has the opportunity to save the life of another one of your children. Would you encourage him or her to donate an organ?
  • If Josie decides to donate her kidney and then later chooses to continue playing hockey, what advice should her parents give her?
  • What options might be open to Josie’s brother other than having his sister donate a kidney?

Solutions

Expert Solution

Although living donors can go and happily involve in their own activities once after the donation.,certain risks may arise later.Especially for the kidney donors the life expectancy may be of 1%.But for the liver donors this may be different because the liver automatically grows normally and starts doing its own function.Where as for the kidney donors ,if the remaining one kidney gets damaged their life expectancy decreases.

As Josies mother and father we won't encourage doing so though she had the opportunity to save one life.Because we as parents we could not keep our child in such a risk.

As parents we can suggest her to continue her hockey as she is interested but certain precautions must be followed like wearing a padded vests or a protective clothing underneath.

As Josie's brother he can identify any other donor who can help or willing to donate the kidney,or he can find a dead donor atleast.
