In what ways is a phagocyte a tiny container of
disinfectants?
Phagocytes are the cells which protects the body by ingesting harmful foreign substances like bacteria , viruses and dead cells.phagocytes include neutrophils , macrophages , monocytes , mast cells and dendritic cells.
Phagocyte is a tiny container of disinfectants because it breaks down bacteria into pus and allows it to be excreted from the body or cleaned out in the lymphatic system .
A phagocyte engulf the foreign substances completely so as to not let any part of that foreign material not to come into contact with healthy cells of body.
Phagocytes often trap the foreign cells and debris against the fibrous network of connective tissue or wall of blood and lymphatic vessels . Once the phagocyte has made its contact , it extends pseudopods that enclose the particles .
Phases in phagocytosis includes
a) chemotaxis and adherence
b) ingestion
c) formation of phagosome
d) formation of phagolysosome by fusion of lysosome with phagosome .
e) digestion of the bacteria
f) release of the pus.
