Hindlimb muscles on you:
5 types were the biceps femoris , the tensor fascia latae , the hamstring muscles (semimembranosusand semitendinosus) , the quadriceps femoris , the gastrocnemius(or “calf” muscle)
Try and copy the movements listed with each of the five hindlimb muscles above. As you do this, which one is easiest for you to understand? Which is the hardest to understand? Why?
Fill out the following chart with each of the five leg muscle (groups). Answer each question with which muscle is primarily used-in other words,you have many muscles and each movement uses many of those muscles, but think about which one is doing most of the work. Use the specimens, descriptions, and your own life experience.

1. Biceps femoris: performs knee flexion and lateral rotation of knee joint and also in hip extension. The long head of biceps femoris is a weaker knee flexor when the hip is extended due to active insufficiency.
2. Tensor fascia Lata: Hip - flexion, medial rotation, abduction,knee - lateral rotation and assist in knee extension, torso stabilization.
3. Semimembranosus and Semitendinosus : It helps to extend the hip joint and flex the knee joint, medial rotation of knee, the tibia medially rotates on the femur when the knee is flexed, medially rotates the femur when hip is extended.
4. Quadriceps femoris: Powerful extensors of knee joint. Crucial in walking, running, jumping and squatting. Also in hip flexion.
5. Gastrocnemius: plantar flexed foot, flexes knee.
6. To go upon the tippy toes, the plantaris muscle works in conjunction with the Achilles tendon to flex the ankle and knee.
7. To stretch out the legs when seated, Hamstrings are used.
8. To march, gluteus is the most important muscle.
9. To swing the leg backward while standing, hamstrings are used.
10. To kick ourselves in the bum, hamstrings are used.
