Are efforts to protect intellectual property in cyberspace like DMCA, SBCTEA, PIPA, and SOPA going too far? Is there a moral imperative to share certain information like scientific research?
The intellectual property rights in cyberspace were established for a separate reason. It meant to reflect on the assumptions for protection as well as incentives for innovations in the businesses.
In today's era, these are driving up the expenses of modern technologies and cause weaker diffusion. It has increased market focus but with monopoly power. This has resulted in less productivity growth, more rise in imbalance in the economy.

There is a moral obligation for sure. Because someone participated and supported a serious research. Research has been treated with hostility in many cases and there is no concern with regulations of scientific research.
While sharing any kind of scientific research one has to understand that basic fairness should be maintained. The sharing shouldn't harm anyone, it should claim the principles, and specific facts. Everyone benefits from the already done research no matter in which field. There is a moral obligation and moral imperative to participate in the research and entail the details of any derivable from wherever in the scientific field.
