Write a research hypothesis for which the independent samples t-test will be appropriate. Clearly identify the independent and dependent variables, and two potential confounding factors.
Here in independent sample t- test the appropriate research hypothesis and Null hypothesis is given below,
Null and research (Alternative) Hypotheses
For comparing two means, the basic null hypothesis is that the
means are equal,
?0: ?1 = ?2
with three common research hypotheses,
??: ?1 ≠ ?2 ,
??: ?1 < ?2 , or
??: ?1 > ?2 ,
one of which is chosen according to the nature of the experiment or
study.
A slightly different set of null and alternative hypotheses are
used if the goal of the test is to determine whether ?1
or ?2 is greater than or less than the other by a given
amount.
The null hypothesis then takes on the form
?0: ?1 − ?2 = Hypothesized Difference
The Research hypotheses,
??: ?1 − ?2 ≠ Hypothesized Difference
??: ?1 − ?2 < Hypothesized Difference
H?: ?1 − ?2 > Hypothesized Difference
These hypotheses are equivalent to the previous set if the
Hypothesized Difference is zero
Now the confounding factors in t test,
A Confounder is a variable whose presence affects the variables being studied so that the results do not reflect the actual relationship. There are various ways to exclude or control confounding variables including Randomization, Restriction and Matching.
