How does humoral immunity differ from cellular immunity & why are both necessary
HUMORAL IMMUNITY:
◆Humoral immunity is a component of adaptive immunity. Here the B cells secrets antibodies. This antibodies is a soluble protein and dissolve in the blood stream.
◆B cell mediated
◆Their action is on extracellular microbes and their toxins.
◆Antibodies are secreted by plasma B cells.
◆Rapid and fast action
◆They doesn't act on transplants
◆They doesn't act on tumor cells.
CELLULAR IMMUNITY:
◆Cellular immunity is a component of adaptive immunity. They are mediated by T cells.T cells produce cytokines.
◆T cell mediated
◆Their action is on intracellular microbes such as viruses, parasite etc.
◆Cytokines produced by T cells
◆Delayed action
◆Act on transplants
◆Act on tumor cells
Both humoral and cellular immunity are necessary.
Humoral immunity also called antibody mediated immunity plays an important role in defense mechanism especially against bacterias.Antibodies produced by the b cells bind with the pathogen and neutralizes the pathogen, thus preventing toxins from entering the cell .
Cellular immunity plays an important role in the defense mechanism against virus, protozoans etc. They also act on tumors and cancers.
