Interpret the meaning of the significant main effect(s) and interaction(s) – what do they mean or what do they tell you?
Significant main effect- In the ANOVA, main effect is the effect of an independent variable on a dependent variable ignoring the effects of all other independent variables. It is the overall effect of a factor.
Interactions- It is the simultaneous effect of two or more independent variable on atleast one dependent variable which differ depending on what you consider the second independent variable. It is common in Regression Analysis,ANOVA etc
You can have interaction without main effects and main effects without interaction
You can take an example of taste test that, you will have different taste for different food here taste is the variable which can affect the outcome. There is a relationship between dependent variable and independent variable Therefore this type of effect is known as main effect.
Interaction effects shows that a third variable influences the relationship between independent and dependent variable. ait makes the model more complex For example in the taste test one dependent variable added is enjoyment and two independent variables are food and condiment. Suppose someone ask will you prefer pickle you will definitely say it depends on food it means our enjoyment is dependent on food,It means there is an interaction effect.
