College performance's approaches are refinements/ enhancements/
fine-tuning of the parameters on which a college's performance is
assessed. Common public paramteres are :
- Age of institute (legacy and alumnus social relevance),
- No. of departments (variety to choose from),
- No. of specializations (depth to choose from),
- no. of faculty members per student or vice versa (more faculty
means better capability of focussing on individuals),
- type of applicants (demographic),
- average work experience of faculty (experience being equated to
knowledge of field's practicalities),
- average experience of students (more experienced students means
more employability of graduates),
- amenities provided for education (library size implies easy
access to in-depth information for more research),
- sports amenities (scope of scholarship applicants where sports
scholarship is given),
- amenities provided for students staying on campus (ease of
student access to campus),
- amenities provided for faculty stay on campus (on-campus
faculty will cater to additional student coaching requirements thus
improving overall batch performance),
- Social outreach of education (family income spectrum of
students. showcases intellectual nature of college)
- Online education facilities (online education improves access
to knowledge for remote students thus improving international
relevance of institute) ,
- category of internship companies or groups (some groups are
renown for the ilk of their membership),
- no. of patents applied for and received by technical/
scientific departments and speciliations (rich intellectual
property means a better institute as it nurtures new thought),
- no. of research papers published by faculties (metric of
intellectual superiority of faculty),
- no. of research papers published by students (metric of
intellectual nourishment provided by college),
- average income of placed students (shows monetary success of
curriculum as a parameter for investors in students' education
usually parents),
- Further education placement of graduating students,
- Mean Percentage and percentile of students if the college is
affiliated. Looses relevance for autonomous institutes as they will
have varying degrees of ease and difficulty depending on
specialization needs and availability,
- etc.
These are a sample list of parameters which would form the basis
for score cards to be used to evaluate colleges.
