What is Society? What holds society together? What are types of society? What is a social institution? How does technology change social interaction?
Society refers to a cluster of individuals sharing certain functional or structural aspects- geographical territory, culture, interaction, etc.
Durkheim considered that the cohesiveness of a society is maintained by Mechanical and Organic Solidarity, i.e. similar aspects of individuals or how labor is divided among individuals who are not similar. However, Karl Marx in his Conflict Theory considered that society is held together through Power and Domination.
The various types of society are: Tribal Society, Agrarian Society, Industrial Society and Post-Industrial Society.
Social Institutions refers to a purposive group of people concerned with maintaining the order of the society, governing the societal expectations and behavior of individuals, through development of norms relevant to societal value.
Technology has made interaction in society easier and possible even without physical presence and proximity. However, it has affected the understanding of non-verbal aspects of interaction.
