Write a report about neural control of erection, emission, and ejaculation and how it relates it to erectile dysfunction and priapism.
The innervation of the pen!s is both autonomic and somatic. From the neurons in the spinal cord and peripheral ganglia, the sympathetic and parasympathetic nerves merge to form the cavernous nerves, which enter the corpora cavernosa and corpus spongiosum to affect the neurovascular events during erection. The penile erectile tissue, specifically the cavernous smooth musculature and the smooth muscles of the arteriolar and arterial walls, plays a key role in the erectile process. Sexual stimulation triggers release of neurotransmitters from the cavernous nerve terminals. which cause the muscles of the corpora cavernosa to relax, allowing blood to flow in and fill the open spaces. The blood creates pressure in the corpora cavernosa, making the pen!s expand and creating an erection.
Ejaculation is a reflex action controlled by the CNS. It is triggered when the sexual act reaches a critical level of excitement. At the moment of ejaculation the walls of the epididymis contract to create peristaltic waves that push sperm into the vas deferens.than vas deferens contract to squeeze the sperm toward the base of the pen!s and the prostate gland and seminal vesicles release secretions to make semen, Nerves also stimulate the seminal vesicles and the prostate to contract which forces semen into the urethra, muscles surrounding the urethra contract and propel semen out of the pen!s
Priapism is a prolonged and unwanted erection of the pen!s, it may occur without sexual stimulation, this condition occurs when blood being trapped in the erection chambers and unable to drain. it can also occur due to result of a ruptured artery from an injury to the pen!s or the perineum which prevents blood in the pen!s from circulating normally. When an erection lasts for too long, this oxygen-poor blood can begin to damage or destroy tissues in the pen!s. so untreated priapism can cause erectile dysfunction, which is the is the inability to get or keep an erection firm enough to have sexual intercourse.
