If you believe obedience is a moral virtue, can you imagine any possible situations in which it would be morally permissible to disobey an order given by another person or an institution? Explain.
If you believe obedience is not a moral virtue, can you imagine any possible situations in which it would be morally permissible to obey an order given by another person or an institution? Explain.
Obedience is certainly a virtue but it depends on who we are obeying to and what we are obeying to do. Obedience is required in most of the time in our lives, otherwise, this world will be in utter chaos. Starting from home to military, obedience is what keeps most of the institutions intact.
Obedience is definitely needed for happiness and leading a fruitful life because at times, if we don’t obey, we will bring destruction if in military, confusion if it is civil society, break in relationship if in a family.
There are certain instances where we can disobey. For example in family, if you like to study something, say mathematics and your family says that you should choose history, you can disobey because you are going to study, you are going to choose your career after studying and when you choose your life partner, you are going to live with that person. If government enacts a rule which affects people, they have the right to disobey in a peaceful manner. If a manager asks you to do something illegal, you have the right to disobey.
