Question 2: Using the data from question 1, conduct a test in SPSS to determine if there is a relationship between level of education and employment using α = 0.05.

I dont want someone to solve this for me, i just need to know what would the null and alternate hypotheses for these be?

Solutions

Expert Solution

test to determine if the four levels of education are equally likely

Since level of education will be categorical (eg.graduate , PG) and we need to know if they are equally likely or in simple if there are significant differences and given all are independent samples. We can use a One -factor ANOVA testing since there are more than 2 groups.

All four levels of education are equally likely.

All four levels of education are not equally likely.

to determine if there is a relationship between level of education and employment

(I am assuming that group is being divided into employed and unemployed and data is presented in a form of contingency table. In this employment will also be a categorical data set).

Since there are two categorical data set we will use chi-square test for independence.

There is no relationship between the levels of education and employment.

There is a significant relationship between the levels of education and employment.

The data set for this question set (Tab Q1 in the Excel data file) comes from a research project that tracks the elderly residents in a community to monitor their cognitive function and general health. Based on the literature, education is considered a protective factor against dementia, and memory decline is usually the first sign of dementia. So the researchers would like to know whether education level (measured in number of years of formal schooling) is correlated with memory function...
