Expert Solution

Do you believe in aliens?”, 54% +5% of the men responded that they do while 33% +5% of women responded that they believe in aliens.

a.for the Men: Identify the margin of error and explain what it means.

In men 54% +- 5% men say they do believe in aliens

Here 54% is proportion & 5% is margin of error.

Margin of error for men is 5%

Margin of error defined as a small amount that is allowed for in case of miscalculation or change of circumstances.

A margin of error tells you how many percentage points your results will differ from the real population value.

So here it margin of error tells that 5% below or above of true population proportion men's believe in aliens.

b.For the Women:Give the actual interval their statistic represents.

For the women belive in aliens is 33%+- 5%.

= 33-5;33+5

=28;38

The confidence interval for women is (28% ; 38%)

Interpretation :- we are confident that the true proportion of women belive in aliens is (28% ; 38%)

c.Is the difference in views between genders statistically significant?

Confidence interval for men belive in aliens(

is (49% ; 59%)

Confidence interval for women belive in aliens is (28%,38%)

Here we can see that the two confidence intervals are not overlapping.

Both are different from each other.

If they are overlapping then we can say that they are same but here they are not.so we can say that both are different.

So views on aliens different for mens & women.
