A recent study about the blood types distribution reported that the percentage of B+ blood type holders in KSA is approximately 19.7%. A call for donation for B+ blood is released at University ofJeddah. What is the probability that the first donor with B+ blood type will be the 7th applicant?
A recent study, about the blood types distribution reported that the percentage of B+ blood type holders in KSA, is approximately 19.7%.
So, the probability that a randomly selected individual in KSA will have B+ blood group, is 19.7/100, ie. 0.197.
So, the probability that a randomly selected individual in KSA, will not have B+ blood group, is
1-0.197, ie. 0.803.
Now, to find the probability that the first donor with B+ blood, will be the 7th applicant.
Now, the 7th applicant would be the first B+ holder, only if the first 6 applicants were not B+ holders.
Now, the first 6 applicants would not be B+ holders, each with probability 0.803. And then the 7th applicant would be a B+ holder, with probability 0.197.
So, by independence rule, we can say that
the chance that the first B+ holder would be the 7th applicant, would be
=
=
So, the probability that the first donor with B+ blood type will be the seventh applicant, is 0.0528.
