Expert Solution

Question

Ans: (e) All of the above

Blood Group

Blood group is an inherited trait. There are three different genes coding for blood group namely A, B & O. Each individual receive one gene from each parent which determine their blood group.

Characterstics

  • A and B are completely dominant over O.
  • A and B exhibit Co-dominance.

Therefore three genes can combine in 6 different ways and give rise to 4 different types of blood groups.

Blood group / Phenotype Genotype Reason
Type A AA or AO If A combines with O only characteristics of A will be expressed as A and B are completely dominant over O. Hence phenotype or( physical expression) will be blood group Type A but will have two different genotype AA and AO
Type B BB or BO Same like Type A. Homozygous B or heterozygous B.
Type AB AB Since A&B are codominant both genes will be expressed.
Type O OO Genes froms both parent should be O to exhibit Type O. Homozygous O

.

In given Question Father: Type B , Mother Type A ( genotype of parents not specified)

Phenotype father B

Possible genotype of father : BB or BO

Phenotype mother A

Possible genotype of mother : AA or AO

possible combinations

1. BB X AA

B B
A AB AB
A AB AB

result :AB

2. BB X AO

B B
A AB AB
O BO BO

result AB and BO

3. BO X AA

B O
A AB AO
A AB AO

result AB and AO

2. BO X AO

B O
A AB AO
O BO OO

result AB , AO, BO, OO

Therefor parents with blood group A and B can give rise to

child with blood group Type A , Type B , Type AB and Type O.
