Explain in detail a method of using data from a force dynamometer as an unmanned automated monitoring system for a turning process.
A dynamometer is used to measure cutting forces using in built sensors in it. It is mounted on tool post So that deflection or strain to tool due to turning actions are measure in terms of force components. It generate small emf. It is amplified and connected to a computer by using a data acquisition system and a software.
For monitoring cutting forces an captive control is required. Here when the cutting forces above a threshold value, which damage lathe or deteriorate surface finish is controlled by a closed loop feed back system. This is how a dynamometer can be employed for monitoring a turning operation.
