how did the natives responded to the growth of the British colonial population and movement west in the 1700s?
The 1700s saw a growth in the Western expansion of the British colony in North America. There was a growth in the number of immigrants who came into the country. But there was not enough land on the coast for all these people to develop self-sufficient farmlands. Moreover, the constant competition and threat from the rivalling empire of France and the onslaught of the French-Indian wars of the 1700s made it necessary for the British empire to consolidated its power over its colony in NorthAmerica.
Initially, contact between Native Americans and French was rare at first, but interactions continued to increase as greater numbers of colonists looked for new places to settle. Neither group liked the British colonists coming west into their areas. The Native American tribes such as the Cherokees grew wary of earlier practice of trade between the British and the French in light of the political ambitions of their European counterparts. The Native American states responded to the British forward onslaught by posing consistent rebellions and strife’s to protect their lands.
