Which type of extinguisher can be used on all classes of fire?

A. Water

B. Foam

C. Class D

D. None of the above

Solutions

Expert Solution

ANSWER:

EXPLANATION:

Water extinguishers are only used for Class-A type of fire (or fire due to combustible materials).

Foam extinguishers can be used for both Class-A and Class-B type of fires (Combustible materials and Flmmable liquids).

Class-D extinguishers uses a dry chemical which creates a barrier between the oxygen and the fuel element. Class-D extinguishers are usually designed for Class-D fires (fire due to inflammable materials), but they can be used as a multipurpose ABC extinguisher.

Note that it is usually not recommended to use Class-D extinguishers in an enclosed space, because the chemicals could be inhaled by the people nearby; although in some cases, it can be used for all ABC fires.
