Human integumentary system is composed of skin, hairs, nails, sweat glands and sebaceous glands. It has a number of functions :-

-protect the body from sunlight

-retain body fluids

-protects from diseases

-eliminate waste products

-regulate body temperature

After studying about integumentary system, I understood many facts about skin in daily life.

-premature skin aging is responsible for fine wrinkles, freckles on face.

-lack of sleep causes dark circles around the eyes

-Poor diet leads to dry skin and lack of lustre.

-High stress causes loss of skin color.

-sunlight exposure causes tan on skin.

-smoking and alcohol causes vascular changes in skin.

-Cutting hair and nails will not stop them from growing.

-Sweat glands are a cooling aid for body during hot weather.

Science has changed my understandings about skin and it's appendages. Skin is the most visible organ of our body. It need to be maintained well. The appearance of skin changes badly in poor diet, stessful life and high use of chemicals. It is also a protective shield against UV rays .It protects us from a number of diseases. The hair is really protective. In nasal cavity hairs filters the air we breathe in .The mucus present in nasal cavity and genitourinary tract protects us from foreign bodies. Mucus kills bacteria by covering them and disrupting their movement .Sebaceous glands makes our skin smooth without use of any cosmetic creams.
