stronger acid determination: HSO4 − or HSeO4–

here, O4- is same so we look at S& Se since S is more e- negative HSO4 is stronger acid

but i was wondering IF lets say (w/e if this exist or not does not matter here)

HSO4- vs HSeO5-

then what happen? S is more e- negative then Se but Se has O5- now, which is more oxoacid structure.

which is stronger now?

Solutions

Expert Solution

For telling you this answer let me tell you the comparison of acidic nature of H2SO4 and H2SO5 . here H2SO4 is more acidic than H2SO5

as conjugate base of H2SO4 is more stable as compare to conjugate base of H2SO5 (as HSO5- is less stable due to repulsion between lone pairs of O-O.

Similarly if we compare HSO4- and HSeO5- ,

HSO4- is more acidic due to two reasons,

1) HSeO5- is less stable due to lone pair lone pair repulsion between O nad O of peroxy bond and

2) resonance stablization in HSO4- is more effective as compare to HSeO5- as earlier has 2pπ-3dπ(more strong) bonding and later has 2pπ-4dπ( less strong).

I hope it helps.

Vitamin C (ascorbic acid) is an example of iodimetric determination, so based on the rules that “in iodimetry (titration with I3), starch can be added at the beginning of the titration. The first drop of excess I3 after the equivalence point causes the solution to turn dark blue. In iodometry (titration of I3), I3 is present throughout the reaction up to the equivalence point. Starch should not be added until immediately before the equivalence point.” However, why starch is still...

Here we will look at an example of subatomic elastic collisions. High-speed neutrons are produced in a nuclear reactor during nuclear fission processes. Before a neutron can trigger additional fissions, it has to be slowed down by collisions with nuclei of a material called the moderator. In some reactors the moderator consists of carbon in the form of graphite. The masses of nuclei and subatomic particles are measured in units called atomic mass units, abbreviated u, where 1u=1.66×10^−27kg. Suppose a...

Second, if you look at t.05,df (t critical values for α = .05) with df = 20, 40, 60, etc (continuing up by 20 each time), for what df does the t critical value first fall strictly within (e.g. < ) i. .05 of z.05? ii. .02 of z.05? iii. .01 of z.05? c....

Examine communism and socialism. We hear so often today that socialism and communism are the same thing. Examine the similarities and differences between the two. Why do so many Americans seem to hate even the word "socialism"? We already employ some socialism in this country today (and for the past several decades). Examples include libraries, police departments, public education, Social Security, Medicare/Medicaid, public parks, roads/highways, and so on. How do these services factor into arguments for or against socialism?
