Can clausal coordination produce coherence? Unity? Explain please!
Clausal coordination refers to the joining of two clauses such that both the clauses assume equal importance. Some coordinating conjunctions are listed as ‘and, or, nor, for, but, so, yet, either/or, and neither/nor’.
Coherence, again, is the manner in which a discourse is put together with respect to other pieces. Connecting clauses with coordinates results in more coherent paragraphs and discourses. For e.g. let us consider the clauses ' I am not well' and ‘I will not go out'. Coordination will result in, 'I am not well, and hence I will not go out'. This is a better-formed sentence with better structure and improved coherence.
Now let us look at writing unity. This refers to how well sentences and paragraphs work in unison with the topic. Sentences that use transition words like 'although',' therefore', ‘hence’, are more organised as far as composition is considered.
Thus, clausal coordination improves coherence by improving the sentence structure and by making it more comprehensible. It also improves unity because it helps in effective transitions.
