explain the purpose of a titration , include the drawing of the equipment used, what does the end point represent?
Hi
Titration is slow addition of a base into an acid with some added indicator or an acid into a base with some added indicator to calculate the concentration of unknown acid or base when concentration of one of the acid or base is known. Indicator is used to indicate the end point which is shown when the color of the solution with indicator changes suddenly. This happens due to the complete neutralization of acid by base or vice-versa.
Therefore end point is the point when the color of the solution changes.
Here is the figure of HCl titration with NaOH solution where phenolphthalein is used as indicator. At end point the color of the solution changes from colourless to pink, as phenolphthalein is colourless in acid and pink in base.
