Online, a friend of yours has found a company that sells a pill that inhibits PGC1-alpha activity. This company states that this pill can help losing fat. As you took the metabolism course this year, your friend is asking for your advice. What do you suggest to him?
First explain the role of PGC1-alpha and then justify why you think it is a good idea, or a bad idea to buy this pill.
PGC1 alpha is in family of transcription coactivators that plays a central role in the regulation of cellular energy metabolism.
PGC-1alpha stimulates mitochondrial biogenesis and promotes the remodeling of muscle tissue to a fiber-type composition that is metabolically more oxidative and less glycolytic in nature .
It participates in the regulation of both carbohydrate and lipid metabolism.
If we are giving pills ,then it will inhibit activity of PGC1 alpha and there by it leads to inhibition of fat metabolism .
So in this case pills not recommended to patient since it interfere the activity of PGC1 alpha, which is helpful for fat metabolism.
