. How do you test if a property is intensive or extensive? Using density and volume of a system as examples, explain whether these are extensive.

1. Intensive(Intrinsic)= The properties of the system which is independent of mass of the system under consideration.
Example- All specific properties are intensive.
Extensive(Extrindic)= The properties which are depenendent of mass of system under consideration.
Density is the intensive property because it is the ratio of mass of the sample and its volume.Since it is ratio, it alway be the same regardless of how much is the sample is measured. In other words density of a system remains unchanged even when it is devided in to two parts.
Volume is extensive property because it depends on mass of the system under consideration.As we see that density remains unchanged even when mass is double .
Density = mass÷volume
If density constant then
Volume is propotional to mass
If mass is double then the volume also become double (to maintain the constant ratio which is density)
