Instructions Observation Techniques: Film Analysis This week, you will analyze a three- to five-minute segment of a movie or a television episode depicting group behavior in organizations. After watching the movie segment of any movie or show, create a report on your analysis. In your report: Mention the name of the movie. Describe the setting and overall storyline of the movie. Describe the main characters in the observed movie section. Describe the situation that you analyzed and interpret the action of the characters depicting group behavior and organizations. Draw conclusions based on social psychological concepts and theories.

Name of the Movie:

  • Rocket Singh- Salesman Of the Year

Setting and Stroyline:

  • This movie talks about a new employee joining an organisation in the sales team and how his honesty interferes with the growth of the company. His innocance and honesty leads him to be framed and the entire office staff goes against him. Later, this person frames his own company on his policies which proves to be a success.

Main Characters:

  • The owner of the Company
  • The new sales employee
  • The existing sales team

Situation Analysed:

  • When the new sales employee comes in, he tends to make a mistake which ends up doubling the sales target of the entire sales team. The sales team group frame against that one employee and trouble him. They eventually boycott him and trouble him all throughout. As a group, they all go against him and make his life miserable.

Conclusions:

The concept used here was of group polarisation. When majority of the people shout and decide to take a decision, the rest of the group tend to follow them even if they do not wish to. Due to being in that group, they are mostly forced to agree with the group even if they do not want to on a personal level.
