Technology is the focus of Chapter 5 in the Collier/Evans textbook.  To quote the chapter’s opening paragraph, “Technology – both physical and information – has dramatically changed how work is accomplished in every industry – from mining to manufacturing to education to health care.”  I might add that technology has also had a dramatic impact on our personal lives.  For this session I am asking you to identify three examples of how technology has changed your life, at least one of which should be work related.  Explain your answer.

1. I work for a Company which is into the branding phase. Here, I realize how the internet revolution has make our personal and professional, both lives so easier. As we all know, Brand positioning is one of the most important marketing strategies which emphasize a place in which a product brand or even a Company, for that matter, could hold on the minds of the consumers when the same is compared to the other similar offerings in the market. Hence it could be also inferred that more that a product being positioned in a given marketplace, it needs to be positioned on the minds of the consumers such that it helps them associate certain values and beliefs with such offerings. It is hence an important component of marketing strategy along with application of appropriate marketing mix. As my part of profile, my job is to collect the reviews of a particular product from the world of Social media, refine the results and statistically present the same to our clients. It is necessary to match the offline and online branding initiatives because of the wider base of the consumers that an Organization can cover into, through branding. Hence, in the era of modernization and technology, where there has been a remarkable revolution of internet technology more specifically, branding is finding a better space even in the virtual world to reach out to the masses.

2. Commutation, for me, is another way of utilizing the technology to an optimal level. Be it buses, taxis or trains, they are all coupled with the mind-blowing technological revolution such as GPS. In my cell phone as well, GPS is installed wherein this system guides me to reach to my destination in more accurate way, giving me the real-time directions as if someone is constantly going with me to guide my path. Without GPS, I rather lose my confidence to explore the unknown ways to reach certain places.

3. The mobile phone itself is an important technology for me. Without the use of mobile phone, I get disoriented. From pacifying my panicked parents, when I am late to home from work or to strike a conversation with my friends or clients, mobile phone is such an invention that has indeed eased the living of the people in this planet. This is truly a technological marvel. It simply does not offer the basic ‘calling function’ while being mobile in movements but it is now changed the way people used to traditionally communicate. From the initial MP3 and video recordings to now, the rampant use of internet and availing every possible facility of internet over a simple machine called ‘mobile phones’, is so feasible to me.
