give 5 adjectives that are consistent with self-concept. Please
describe how each adjective might be a source of career strengths
or weaknesses. Provide examples.
The five adjectives I have chosen are ambitious, self motivated, reliable, emotional and innovative. These adjectives are often used to describe the employee behavior.
Ambitious people would have strong desire to succeed. Being ambitious would help us to concentrate on our goals and work towards success. Most of the people use this adjective in their resumes to show that they have strong desire to achieve their goals and hence can excel in career. For example if we consider a group of people, the most ambitious person would try to complete the work focusing only on the goals without being affected by any external factors.
Self motivated is used to explain that the person requires less supervision in work and would perform the job without guiding or compelling. Self motivated people identify by self what should be done and work with enthusiasm. Hence the managers need not micro manage self-motivated people. For example when everyone in a group waits for manager guidance to start their work, a self motivated individual would try to learn by own and start doing the work. Managers can involve in other important tasks.
Reliable means someone who can be trusted. A reliable person always completes the work on time and delivers as committed. Hence managers always trust employees whom they find as reliable and hand over more responsibilities which would help them to grow in the organization. For example among all others in a group, only reliable person would deliver consistent results and management would consider reliable people for important roles more than any other group members.
Emotional persons openly show their feelings and such behavior is not favorable for career growth. We should have control on our emotions and behave professionally. Else we would not be able manage the highly stressful conditions and management will not select emotional persons to handle higher positions. For example when we consider a group of employees, emotional people would show feelings like excitement, anxiety, and anger etc openly and others find such behaviors awkward in a professional set up.
Innovative persons would be creative and would develop new ideas. Being innovative in work is very essential in the competitive world to impress the management and move to higher positions. For example when a person is innovative, the person would suggest the group about new ways to improve the process and would support to bring changes instead of following traditional methods.
