Immediately after the first plane struck Tower 1, all power was lost, including the public announcement system. Most cell phones (local numbers) did not work. However, some businesses had backup generators, and some computers, televisions, and radios were still working. What communications strategies would you have used to communicate what was happening and what steps to take? How would that differ from strategies you would and could use today?

Solutions

Expert Solution

I would have used walkie talkie to convey what was happening as calling would have been too time consuming. For the fire brigade I would have spoken to them via radio technology as to where the fire is and would have asked what are the exit routes and emailed everyone the exit routes. Companies would have also emailed their employees so that they could use computers to view the exit plan and escape. Television channels would cover the destruction.

In today's age one could easily post on social media via the computer the image of the exit route and display it online, everyone will get access to it, at one click of a button, it would be available to everyone, the images of the fire being engulfed could be shared so that fire fighters could easily navigate the route and help with the quick rescue operation. This increases economic efficiency and the time management as lives are saved at a quicker rate. Computer screen pop ups and using the interest source to convey and send messages online is a timely resource. Television channels would display the several emergency numbers and display several destruction sites in clear definition.
