How does capping agent adsorb on the nanoparticle surface? For example, citrate on silver nanoparticle surface, is this physical adsorption or chemical bonding?
Answers : capping agent is a amphillic molecule which is consisting of non polar hydrocarbon tail and polar head group. In which non polar group bound to the surrounding medium and polar group interacts with metal atom present on the surface of nanoparticles.
For example : citrate on silver nanoparticle form chemical bonding by the formation of larger cluster of silver nanoparticles. which is confirmed by recording tha absoption spctra with the absoption peak value at 410 nm is increases as the concentration of citrate is increased. This shows the complexation of citrate with silver nanoparticle by the formation of strong surface interaction.
