What social and economic factors drove the European powers to rely on the trans-Atlantic slave trade for labor in the western hemisphere? What impact did this have on the lives of the African slaves?
This is a history question. can someone give me some idea about this?
thank you
One of the main causes of this form of trade were the development of the colonies by the European countries, in America, colonisation was by England, where began a greater demand for the labourers for cultivation of tobacco, sugar as well as cotton. Since, paid labour had even been much expensive, theyhad to look for other options. They turned towards the indigenous people, but their population had reduced because of diseases and conflicts. Thus, the colonisers had to look for cheap forms of labour coming from Africa.
People from the route of Atlantic Ocean from west Africa were brought in who were being sold. Europeans had bought a great number of the Africans , sending them to work in various colonies. Some of the major nations involved in slave trading were French, British, Portuguese, Spanish as well as the Dutch empires.
As a result of the transatlantic slave trade, there were loss of captives both within and outside America. In transportation to the new world, there were million death. Some died as soon as they arrive. Trade’s savage nature had results in the deaths of the africans who had been enslaved.
