Ans-1. Biuret
Protein
Yes, it turns to purple to violet
No, it does not need to be heated
Biuret test is used for the test of proteins . The test is done by putting food sample into the test tube. Adding water and stirring it. Then add equal volume of pottasium hydroxide solution to the tube and stir it . Add two drops of copper sulphate solution and stir. Record the colour of the solution. Biuret reagent is blue or purple in colour which changes to violet. There was no need of heating in the procedure.
Ans-2. Benedict's
Sugar
Yes, it turns to copper red colour
Yes, it requires heating
Benedict's solution is a clear blue solution composed of copper sulphate, sodium citrate and sodium carbonate. It is used for the test of sugars.
The procedure is take approx 1 ml of sample in a test tube. 2 ml or 10 drops of Benedict's reagent us added . The solution is heated now in a boiling water bath for 3-5 min. Observe the change in colour. The colour changes from brick red to rusty red or copper red depending on the amount of sugar. And heating is required in the procedure.
