why do work cells increase the use of equipments and
machinery?
answer the question asap!
Work cell is an organisation of machinery, workstations and manpower in such manner, so as to facilitate seamless flow of material and information across the sequence, thereby reducing total lead time / waiting time / changeover times, minimising the unnecessary movements that is another wasteful activity and therefor smoothens the flow by balancing the line optimally, that increases overall process efficiency and utilisation of resources.
The work cells can be designed after careful study of process sequence, output levels and other situational constraints that are specific to different processes.
The answer why the work cells improve utilisation of resources.
(i) They reduce the lead time by reducing waiting time
(ii) They balance the line leading to greater efficiency
(iii) They eliminate bottlenecks
(iv) They minimise the movement.
(v) They are customised to the process design.
