a.) Why do cells divide or why do cells need to divide?
b.) The differences in cell division process(es) between prokaryotic and eukaryotic organisms.
Be sure to provide details of the differences in a logical manner.
A. A particular cell has a limited life span and a particular function. If that cell dies a particular function would be stopped. Imagine this whole scenario in the case of every cell. So to continue the process and the function the cell is kept replicating itself so that a new cell takes its place and does it's functioning. Each cell divide and form of a copy of itself and the function continues.
B.
Prokaryotic cell | Eukaryotic cell |
The division process is simple as there is no nucleus and other organelles. In prokaryotes, such s bacteria the cell division occurs by binary fission in which the daughter cell is a replica of the parent cell. |
The division process is complex due to presence of nucleus and other membrane bound organelles. In eukaryotes, the division occurs through either mitosis or meiosis. In mitosis, the cell is exact replica while in meiosis the chromosome number, and the DNA content is half than the parental cell. |
