Marketing Research:

What is a hypothesis and why do we need both, a null and an alternative hypothesis?

Solutions

Expert Solution

Hypothesis is a precise and testable statement of what the researcher will be predicting the outcome of the study. Hypothesis is generally done by stabilizing relationship between dependent and independent variable.

Null hypothesis reflects that there is no relationship between two variables which are being studied. It states that results are due to chance and not significant in what is being studied by the researcher.

Alternative hypothesis advocates that there is a relationship between two variables which are being studied by the researcher, it also states that result are not due to chance and they are significant in what is being studied by researcher.

Both null and alternative hypothesis are helpful in order to determine and establishment of establishment between two different variables which are either independent in nature and dependent in nature and hence they are important.
