The SSA3 and SSA2 gene are coded for a member of the HSP70 protein, is expressed at low levels under optimal growth conditions and is dramatically induced in response to heat shock.

SSA3 RNA accumulation was higher in sporulating cells than in nonsporulating cells .

The major function of Hsp70 proteins,that they have important function of the cell's machinery for protein folding, and help to protect cells from stress. Majority of the heat shock proteins act as intra-cellular chaperones for other proteins.
They play an important role in protein–protein interactions such as helps in folding and establishment of proper protein conformation (shape) and they also prevent the unwanted protein aggregation.
